Catherine (Kathie) Walker Buchanan, 86, longtime resident of Albuquerque formerly of Jermyn, PA, passed away September 24, 2008. Daughter of Beatrice Kelly and Gerald Walker. She married Allan (Buck) S. Buchanan in 1945 and had a son Allan Jr. A graduate of Marywood University in Scranton & served as a second lieutenant in the US Army during World War II. Her life's passion was teaching and she taught at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School for many years. In retirement, this vibrant woman served on many boards, including UNM's Maxwell Museum, and as docent she continued educating young people maintaining a rigorous schedule. She was also active at the Friends of the Library, Center for the Book in Albuquerque. In addition to her outreach reading programs, she also helped coordinate the monthly book sales at the Library. She was an avid hiker and a wonderful friend to so many and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son; and her sister Dorothy Mattise. She is survived by several nieces; nephews; grand-nieces; and grand-nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maxwell Museum or Friends of the Library in her honor.
