Juan P. Atencio Sr., 89, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 8, 2008. Mr. Atencio is survived by his sons, Paul Atencio and wife, Jan, Armando Atencio and wife, Veronica, Rudy Atencio, and Eloy Atencio and wife, Ernestine; sister, Rufina Martinez; brothers, Isaac Atencio and wife, Raquel, and Faustin Atencio and wife, Flora; grandchildren, Alyssa and husband, Jeff, Christopher and wife, Deborah, Autumn, Nicole, Ellena, Michelle, Gabriella, Sabrina, Kimberly, Matthew and Ashley; great-granddaughter, Mayserah; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Atencio was preceded in death by his wife, Cordilia Atencio. Mr. Atencio is a member of the Catholic Church. Mr. Atencio was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Atencio was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II with the 447th Anti-Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion. Mr. Atencio was a recipient of the EAME ribbon, 4 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, and the Purple Heart. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 10, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus. FInal visitation will be Thursday, September 11, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph Pl. NW, with a Communion Service at 10:30 a.m, Deacon Frank Lucero, presider. Interment will be Friday, September 12, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Leonardo Valdez, Larkin Vigil, Christopher Atencio, Serafico Carrillo, Sabrina Atencio, and Autumn Atencio. Honorary Pallbearers will be Eddie Vigil Jr., Tony Chavez Jr., Faustin Atencio, Isaac Atencio, Ramon Suazo, and Valentin Suazo Jr. Arrangments by: Gabaldon Mortuary 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW 243-7861
