Obituary for ZAWADZKAS

Gerald A. (Jerry) Zawadzkas, age 62, of Albuquerque, formerly of Torrington, CT, passed away Wednesday September 3, 2008 at a local hospital. He was born on January 3, 1946 in Torrington, CN to Peter and Isabel Zawadzkas. Jerry graduated from Columbia University of New York, as well as City College of New York where he received his Master's Degree in Physics. After graduating from Columbia, Jerry was drafted by the Detroit Lions where he played for three years as a tight end. After playing with the Lions, he was then signed by the New York Jets and was a part of their 1968 Super Bowl III Championship. After moving to Albuquerque in 1978, he worked at Sandia National Labs until his retirement in 2003. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Katherine of Albuquerque; sons, Robert Zawadzkas and wife, Christy of Dallas, TX., Michael Zawadzkas of Portland, OR, Tim Zawadzkas and wife, Mei-Shen of Albuquerque; daughter, Xenia Zawadzkas and husband, Robert Healy of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Hudson, Nadia, Lilly and Viola; sister, Elizabeth El-Bayeh and husband, Hamid of Cape Cod, MA; brothers, Peter Zawadzkas and wife, Joyce of Maine, Michael Zawadzkas and his wife, Jane of Cape Cod, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Catholic Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 8, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel.
