Richard A. Kershow, 68, a 23 year resident of Rio Rancho passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2008. Richard was born April 18, 1940 in Mineola, NY the son of Richard A. Kershow (deceased) and Estelle Odwazny Kershow. He worked for the Town of Oyster Bay for 23 years. During this time he was also a member of the Hicksville Fire Department, rising to the rank of Chief and later served as Fire Commissioner. He relocated to New Mexico in 1985 where he worked for the Rio Rancho Country Club and then the Santa Fe Golf and Country Club as a Grounds Maintenance Equipment Mechanic. There weren't any mechanical challenges too big or too small that he wasn't willing to tackle for family and friends. Some of his hobbies included restoring and showing antique hit and miss engines from the early 1900's. He also began crewing for hot air balloons shortly after his arrival in New Mexico and enjoyed working the Balloon Fiesta every year. He also loved to garden, especially peppers of any kind. Richard is survived by his wife of 23 years, Pat Kershow; mother, Estelle of Hicksville, NY; five children, Richard Kershow and wife Bridget of Eatons Neck, NY, Christopher Kershow and wife Ellie of Redstone, CO, Melissa Gauck and husband Richard of Parkesburg, PA, Kevin Kaminski and wife Teri of Rio Rancho, NM, Tom Kaminski and wife Donna of Rio Rancho, NM; thirteen grandchildren, Rich, Alicia, Richie, Brooke, Sara, Christopher, Kelley, Samantha, Steven, Matthew, Daniel, Nicholas, and Danielle; two great-grandchildren, Izabella and Gabriella; one brother, Jim Kershow and wife June of Hicksville, NY. He was loved and respected by anyone who met him and will be dearly missed by all. A visitation will take place on Sunday, September 7, 2008 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln, Rio Rancho.
