Eugenia Faye Foote, 96, Retired School Nurse. Eugenia Faye Foote, 96, a resident of Alamogordo for more than 50 years, died Sunday, August 31, 2008, at her home in Albuquerque, where she had lived for the past five years. Faye was born July 7, 1912 in Soper, OK to William Arthur Jessee and Mary Elizabeth Caviness Jessee. She grew up in Ranger and Slaton, TX. Following high school graduation, she worked for the National Recovery Administration before entering nurses' training at St. Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo, TX, where she earned her R.N. in 1937. Her nursing career took her to Las Vegas, NM, where she met Leroy Foote. The couple married May 15, 1938 in Las Vegas. After World War II, Faye and Leroy resided briefly in California, Pueblo, CO, and Las Cruces before making their home in Alamogordo. Faye became a nurse for the Alamogordo Public Schools, a position she held until her retirement in 1972. Faye and Leroy were members of Grace United Methodist Church and generously volunteered their time in many capacities there. After retirement, Faye and Leroy remained active in their church, in A.A.R.P., and in many other organizations. They traveled all over the world, much to Faye's delight. Faye was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leroy, in 1991; and her brother Bill Jessee. Survivors include two sons, William and his wife Cheryl of Albuquerque, and David Foote and his wife Nella of Plano, TX; four grandchildren, Jeremy Foote and his fiance Lisa Benski, and Jennifer Foote and her husband Stephen Curtice, all of Albuquerque, Lauren Foote of Plano, and David Allen Foote of New York City; one great-grandson, Andrew Curtice of Albuquerque; a nephew, Jim Shockey and his wife Ouida; a niece, Mary Estelle Wells; and many other great nieces and nephews, including Paula Wells and Pete and Wanda Shockey. The family is very grateful to Tom and Rhonda Dimperio and the staff of Constance House in Albuquerque; Carmen Brown of House Calls of New Mexico; and the visitation ministry of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Albuquerque for their loving care of Faye in her last years. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Steve Trout officiating. Interment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Shockey, Wayne Shockey, Gary Shockey and Stephen Curtice. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
