Obituary for DUDEK

Ernest Dudek, 95, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past four years, and prior to that had been a resident of Roswell for 25 years, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2008. Ernest was born July 7, 1913 the son of Louis and Antonia Hess Dudek in Belle Plaine, Iowa. He attended school in Belle Plaine, graduating in 1931. Ernest was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He went to work for the United States Postal Service in 1947 as a mail clerk, on the railroad for 27 years. He was married to Muriel Fowler October 18, 1964. He retired from the Cedar Rapids post office in 1974. He was a longtime and dedicated member of the American Legion Post 39 of Iowa for over 60 years. Ernest loved classical music and opera; enjoyed playing his violin, and golf, and wrote poetry. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Duane; one grandson, Jamie; and his brother, Edward. Ernest is survived by his wife Muriel; children, Elvin Irons of Des Moines, IA, and Kathryn Hallquist-Goodwin and husband, Dennis of Rio Rancho; seven grandchildren, Tim, Eric, Amy, Angela, Elizabeth, Nathan, and Zachary; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Pat Irons of Cedar Rapids, IA; and one nephew, Bill Dudek of Lamoni, IA. A Memorial Service will be held for Ernest on Friday, August 29, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Acantilado Vista, 920 Riverview Dr. SE, Rio Rancho with Spiritual Councilor Jude Fournier officiating. Interment will be in the Oakhill Cemetery in Belle Plaine, Iowa at a later date.
