Chris Martinez was born January 28, 1930 in Jemez Valley to Isabel and Damasio Martinez. He graduated from El Rito High School at 15 and joined the Marines. Upon discharge he returned to Albuquerque where he married his loving wife of 58 years, Isabel. He was a dedicated firefighter in Albuquerque and retired as Captain after serving for 30 years. Chris was a very hardworking responsible father and was always there to care for his family, ready to help whenever possible. He also taught us all to carry on his wonderful sense of mischief and humor. He was preceded in death by his wife Isabel and sons Chris and Richard Martinez. He is survived by daughter Kathleen and husband Leroy Griego; grandchildren Maria Victoria and husband Chris Hawkins, Christina Griego, Benito Rey Griego and wife Cynthia, Maximilliano Rey Martinez; great grandchildren Jocette Aragon, Ethan, Anna Sofia, and Julia Hawkins, David Martinez and Iliana Griego; and mother in law Julia Murphy. A Rosary for Mr. Martinez will be recited Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Salazar and Sons Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
