Orvey E. Hampton Sr. went to be with the Lord Friday, August 14, 2008 in Las Cruces, NM after suffering a massive heart attack three weeks prior. Orvey was born in Payden, OK, January 18, 1925 and remained in Oklahoma until 1955 when he and his wife and children moved to Albuquerque, NM. Betty, his wife of 54 years, preceded him in death in 1997. He is survived by a son, Orvey Jr.and his wife Judy, who reside in California, and a daughter Joan Newsome who resides in Colorado. He had five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Orvey spent the last 30 years of his life serving the Lord as a pastor in churches in Belen and Los Lunas before moving to Elephant Butte, where he was Sr. Pastor at Central Christian Church in Truth or Consequences, NM. The last ten years brought Orvey many health challenges, including blindness, but it never deterred him and he remained active and independent until his heart attack. A Memorial Service will be held at Church of the Butte, Elephant Butte, NM, August 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Kirikos Family Funeral Home, Inc. & Sierra Crematory, LLC, (TorC)
