Obituary for SATHER

Richard E. Sather, 87, a resident of New Mexico since 1991, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Eric. Mr. Sather is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nancy; children, Edwin, Kenneth, Richard A. Daniel, and Delania. Richard graduated from San Diego State University. He was a licensed Bioanalyst in the Clinical Laboratory at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, California for 35 years. He was a WWII Veteran, serving as a platoon sergeant in the First Infantry during the Battle of the Bulge and through Germany until the war ended. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was selected to be Sergeant of the Guard at the Nuremburg War Trials and was responsible for the safety of the prisoners found guilty and hanged. Mr. Sather served as the President of the New Mexico Appaloosa Horse Club. He was an active member of the United Church of Santa Fe. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 6, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Church of Santa Fe, 1804 Arroyo Chamiso, Santa Fe, 87505.
