Obituary for DEWITT

Gary Deon Dewitt, 39, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, July 27, 2008. He is survived by his wife Yvonne Rae Dewitt; daughter, Kayla Marie Dewitt; step-children, Raelynn Currence, Savonn Currence, and Samaira Currence; parents Col. Emmit D. Dewitt, USA (Ret.) and wife Shirley, all of Albuquerque; brother, LTC Gregory Paul Dewitt and wife Kimberley of Ft. Sill, OK; and a large, extended family. MSGT Dewitt, recently promoted, served with distinction in the US Army and Reserves. He served several tours, most recently in Iraq. On active duty, he won many awards, including Soldier of the Year at Ft. Hood, TX. During his service in the reserves, Gary was selected as the Outstanding Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year. Although he was battling cancer, he not only kept working, but also graduated as the Honorary Student with his MBA from the University of Phoenix. Mr. Dewitt was very proud of his Team at the University of Phoenix. He was a Third Degree Master Mason. Above all, Gary loved his family. He was a kind, generous, charismatic, devoted, loving husband, father, son, brother, nephew, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed. Services will be held Friday, August 1, 2008, 10:00 a.m., at Legacy Church, 7201 Central Ave. NW. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 1:30 p.m. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Thursday, July 31, 2008, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family would like to thank everyone for their continuous prayer and help.
