Obituary for LEE

George Albert Lee, 91, of Lynchburg, VA and formerly of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Lynchburg Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Alice Arranga Lee, and son of the late Reverend William Arthur and Emma Gertrude Brown Lee. Mr. Lee was born October 22, 1916, in Atlanta, GA. He graduated from Syracuse University, in 1939 and earned his MA in 1940. Following graduation, he taught school for a few years before entering the army as a medic during World War II. After the war ended, Mr. Lee returned to teaching and taught for three more years before switching to the insurance field, moving up to supervisor of claims at the Syracuse office. After retiring in 1978, Mr. Lee worked as a professional photographer for ten years. Mr. Lee was also active in volunteer work, and visited the elderly at many nursing homes and assisted living facilities with his beloved Dalmation, Romany, a registered therapy dog. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sandra Blake and husband, Coleman, of Herndon, VA and Glenda Smith and husband, Larry of Carmel, CA; a stepson, Brian Arranga and wife, Amy of Forest, VA; five grandchildren, Erika Daly of Covington, VA, Christian Fowler of Raleigh, NC, Matthew Fowler of Austin, TX, and Abigail Smith and Austin Smith, both of Carmel; two step-grandchildren, Arden and Max Arranga of Forest; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Faith Daly of Covington and a step great-grandchild, Jessica Reavis of Raleigh.
