Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday July 05, 2008

Jacqueline Van Pelt (Jackie) went home to Jesus on Tuesday, July 1, 2008. Jackie was born September 24, 1982. She attended Osuna Elementary School, Madison Middle School, and graduated from Sandia High School in May, 2001. She immediately went to the University of New Mexico, with tuition paid by the lottery scholarship, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 2005 with an endorsement in ESL (English as a second language). She also received her masters at UNM in Language, Literature, and Social Cultural Studies on May 12, 2007. She worked part time for Bob Edwards State Farm Insurance Co. while she attended college. Her passion was teaching school, and she received her first teaching assignment as a second grade teacher at Kit Carson Elementary. She loved her students and they loved her. Jackie's favorite hobby was traveling. She was a big Ricky Martin fan and attended several concerts, traveling as far as Puerto Rico to see him. She enjoyed music, played the piano, and sang in the church choir for midnight mass. Jackie is survived by her parents, Dave and Patti Van Pelt; her brother, Dave and wife, Nicole; her two nephews, Kyle and Zack Van Pelt; and many, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; too many to mention. Thanks to all of our friends and relatives for their lifetime of support for Jackie. We could not have done it without you. Our grateful thanks to her doctors: Barbara McAneny, M.D., Gabrielle Adams M.D., James Poliner M.D. and Luis Padilla Paz M.D. Special thanks to her family doctor of 25 years, Robin Tuchler, M.D. In addition, we would like to thank the nurses and staff at Presbyterian Hospital who were so kind and thoughtful when Jackie needed them so many times through the years. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, July 7, 2008, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel.
