Obituary for MORGAN

Alice Ruth Morgan, 74, passed away at her home in Albuquerque. Alice pioneered many groundbreaking opportunities for women in the Bachelors and Masters programs in Business Administration at the University of New Mexico, and also accomplished many firsts for women in her career at Sandia National Laboratories. She was born Alice R. Smith on April 1, 1934 Petersburg, TX. She graduated from Eunice High School 1952. She received her Bachelors of Business Administration from UNM 1956 where she was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, National Scholastic Honor Society, and had the highest grades of any woman in her class. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Received a Masters of Business Administration from UNM 1969, where she was one of the first six women ever to graduate with an MBA at UNM. Her career at Sandia National Laboratories (1963-1993) included the positions of contracting representative in purchasing, supervisor of payment control and accounting section, supervisor of travel and relocation, supervisor of employee accounting division, and promoted to manager of the finance department in 1984 where she served until she retired in 1993. Alice and husband Alfred enjoyed being active at Saint Marks on the Mesa Church, traveling, skiing, attending the theater and symphony. Alice's professional and community involvements included Board of Directors of Family and Children's Services, member of National Corporate Cash Management Association, National Association of Accountants, Mortar Board Alumni Association, Chi Omega Alumni Association, and Coronado Ski Club. She is preceded by her beloved parents Cloyd D. Smith and Lula Bell Smith. She is survived by her beloved husband, Alfred C. Morgan; her brother CD (Irene) Smith; and sisters-in-law Rosie Owens, Harriet (Paul) Hixenbaugh, Phoebe Trimmer; and brother-in-law Oyer Morgan. She is also survived by her loving children, Steven and Linda Miner, Kevin and Sandra Miner, Mike Morgan, Janice and J.L. Bray; and grandchildren, Riley and Ryan Miner, Katie, Jake and Kelsey Bray; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held on July 11, 2008, 1 p.m. at St. Marks Episcopalian Church, 461 Richmond NE, Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers you may send donations to National Parkinson Foundation.
