Obituary for SEGURA

Bertha M. Segura, age 87, passed away on June 22, 2008 at the Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque following an illness. Bertha was born March 24, 1921 in San Ignacio, NM to the home of Benjamin and Demecia Romero Madrid. She married Frank Segura on January 2, 1936. A lifelong resident of San Ignacio, she and her husband, Frank were longtime ranchers. She drove the school bus for the Santa Rosa Consolidated schools for 35 years. Bertha was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart Society and Las Hijas de Maria. She was also a member of the Campos Senior Citizens where she spent countless hours quilting, crocheting, and she also enjoyed baking. Bertha is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank; a daughter, Florence Segura; sisters, Isabel Ulibarri and Flugencia Sena and her brother; Levy Madrid. Survivors include her son, Benjamin Segura of San Ignacio; daughter, Mary Esther Billingsley of Richardson, TX; grandchildren Medina Segura of Manteca, CA, Demecia Segura of North Hollywood, CA, Crystal Mazza and Thomas Mazza both of Richardson, TX and her sister; Tommie Gutierrez of Albuquerque; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary Services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 7:00 p.m., from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 27, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., also from St. Rose Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Frank T. Ulibarri, Ely Madrid, Thomas Mazza, Gene Madrid, Dale Gutierrez, Mark Sena, and Jose Segura. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Bertha's nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to help defray funeral costs and can be dropped off at the Chavez Funeral Home or mailed to Chavez Funeral Home, P.O.
