Obituary for JOHNSON

George P. Johnson was born February 27, 1918, in Goldthwaite, TX. He passed away on June 19, 2008. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty K. Johnson in 1995. They were married for 51 years. He is survived by his sister, Snow Weatherred of Ft. Worth, TX; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Johnson acquired a Master's Degree in Education from New Mexico State University. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at 215 Locust NE. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, and was in France and Germany. Mr. Johnson was a football coach at Belen High School from 1947-1954. He was a football coach at Valley High School from 1954-1957. He was president of the New Mexico Coaches and Officials Association in 1950. He was named Principal of the new Taft Junior High School in 1957. He served as Principal of Taft for 23 years and retired in 1980. He was formerly a member of the Albuquerque Country Club. Services will be held in the Palm Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, 1100 Coal Ave. SE at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday June 25, 2008. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to give to the American Lung Association or a charity of their choice.
