Obituary for GROAT

Ronald "Roy" Grafton Groat died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born October 26, 1931 at Detroit, MI, the son of Robert and Frances. Mr. Groat attended Detroit public schools and graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in 1950. He was drafted into the US Army for the Korean War. After receiving an honorable discharge, he started a number of successful companies in the communications industry. Mr. Groat found success in Detroit, MI and then Chicago, IL. At the age of 43, he retired and moved to Albuquerque with his son, John. Survivors include his son, John; his wife, Julie; and their children, Bradyn and Alyson, of Monument, CO, and brother, Douglas, of New Port Richey, FL. A good day for Roy was getting up, eating toast with strawberry preserves and heading to "the shop". With the camaraderie of his friends, Roy focused on his true love; automotive restoration. His most recent projects include a 1932 Ford 5 Window Coupe, 1938 Buick Two-Door Special, 1964 Pontiac GTO and 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle. He was previously married to Geraldine Groat Darnell from 1957 to 1973. He was preceded in death by his father in 1959; and his mother in 1979. He had one sister, and one brother. His sister Barbara Smith died in 2003. His daughter, Carol Lynn Ingram, died in 2001.
