Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Monday May 12, 2008

Jamie Brown Menees, resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008. She is survived by her parents, Jim and Pansy Brown of Wichita, Kansas; her brother Mark Brown and wife Marcy of Mukilteo, Washington, as well as by nieces, nephews, godchildren and many loving friends. Jamie was born in Baltimore, Maryland, moved to St. Louis and then to Wichita, where she graduated from Southeast High School. She received her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Jamie was a Dental Hygienist in the Kansas City and Albuquerque areas. As well as being involved in professional dentistry, she was a member and held various offices in local and national dental hygienists' associations. Among these, she was the President of the Kansas Dental Hygienists' Association and the University of Missouri at Kansas City - Dental Hygienists' Alumni Association. She loved to travel and visited China in 1983. In 1987 she moved from Kansas City to Albuquerque with her fiancee Leonard R. Lopez, DDS. She loved the area, the art, traditions and many friends she made here. Jamie was active in furthering the goals of the dentistry community and in 1991 she was given the Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Jamie was a Clinical Instructor in the Dental Hygiene Program at the University of New Mexico, where she excelled in her role as a mentor to many students. She was the Treasurer and a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Dental Hygienists' Association in 2002 - 2003. Jamie loved the people she worked with and her patients at the office of Bill Pavlakos, DDS, in Albuquerque for many years. Jamie did not consider this work - she did what she loved. The Dental Hygiene Oath, which she so proudly pledged to follow, is to render health service to those who seek our ministrations, and enjoin the sacred duty of teaching the public, particularly children and young people, by precept, lecture, and every other available means, and by future study to broaden our knowledge that we may share with others such information in our special field as will tend toward the ideal of dental health, and with this pledge may it be granted us to enrich our lives of the practice of our art, thus to worship God in the service of mankind. Jamie was a shining example of her life's dedication to fulfilling her oath and dreams. Memorial services will be held Monday, May 12, 2008, 1:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. A celebration of her life will follow at a later date at her church in Wichita, First United Methodist Church.
