Obituary for JOHNSTON

Doris Marie Smith Johnston joined her Lord on Friday, May 2, 2008. She was born in Rifton, NY on September 27, 1920. After graduating from Kingston High School, she later moved to Iowa with her father. She then followed friends to Albuquerque where she met her husband, John of the United States Navy on the then Sandia Base. They were married in the Base Chapel in 1949. Doris Marie retired in 1987 from the U.S. Civil Service at Kirtland Air Force Base. She was active in the League of Women Voters where she worked tirelessly to help create the Petroglyph National Park. Doris enjoyed the art of Ikebana flower arranging. She was a member of New Life Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 200. Doris is survived by her husband, John of Albuquerque; and her daughter, Kaarin, who teaches in St. Joseph, MN. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Wednesday, May 7, 2008, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2008, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30.
