Obituary for PITTELL

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday April 12, 2008

Glenn Pittell died suddenly April 8, at age 55. Glenn was a sculptor, collector of rustic treasures, would-be bull rider, Scrabble enthusiast, dart fiend, and a gourmet/gourmand with a special affinity for his outdoor kitchen. Glenn was a much-loved husband, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor in the Fringecrest community. Glenn was also a dedicated mental health professional who brought commitment and tenacity to his work with clients and their families. Glenn was raised on his beloved Galveston Island, and those environs had a profound influence on his loves and life. Glenn received his BFA from the University of Texas in Austin, and went on to a MA in Art Education with Art Therapy emphasis at UNM. Glenn took great pride in introducing an art therapy program to the Albertina Kerr Center in Portland, Oregon where he worked with behaviorally-disordered adolescents. Returning to New Mexico in 2001, Glenn continued his mental health work at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital, most recently as a discharge planner for the inpatient psychiatric unit. Glenn is survived by his wife, Lynn Hillas; sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Bob Randall, of Galveston; niece, Clair; and nephew, Spencer; brother and wife, Mark and Sue Pittel, of Houston; and nephew, Mike. Glenn will be remembered for his compulsion to befriend, screwball humor, and expansive heart. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Glenn's name to Streetwise Inc., 2925 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112 or Albuquerque Healthcare for the Homeless, P.O. Box 25445, Albuquerque, NM 87125.
