Obituary for YAU

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday March 09, 2008

Sister Lucy Sin-Man Yau, a Canossian Sister, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the Canossian Sisters' residence, Cristo Rey Convent, in the South Valley in Albuquerque. Sister succumbed peacefully and courageously three months after being diagnosed with cancer. Sister Lucy was born in Hong Kong on November 23, 1926, the fifth child of seven children. She had her early education with the Canossian Sisters, with whom she entered the Religious Life, and lived it faithfully for 62 years. Sister was an exceptional teacher, attested by numerous past students who have kept in contact with her through the years and, most recently, during her brief illness. Sister Lucy served in various capacities as a teacher, pastoral worker, school head, community leader, spiritual director of the Chinese communities in Hong Kong; Vancouver, Canada; San Francisco and Sacramento, California; and during the past three years in Albuquerque as spiritual director of the Legion of Mary at St. Edwin's Parish. Sister Lucy is survived by her sister, Ruby Li of Vancouver; brothers, James of Sacramento and Tat-Koon of Hong Kong; brother-in-law, Basil of Oregon; her cousin, Magdalene Fung of Vancouver; and many nephews and nieces. The Canossian Sisters would like to thank the staff of Casa Angelica and the Presbyterian Hospice care-givers for making the last earthly days of Sister Lucy most comfortable and peaceful. We ask that you remember Sister Lucy in your prayers, that she may rest in God's peace. We praise and thank God for a life well-lived and a Christian death accepted with great faith, hope and love. Visitation will be held at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel on Sunday, March 9, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont NE, Claremont and Vermont Streets, on Monday, March 10, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
