Obituary for LOPEZ

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday March 09, 2008

Anselmo "Woody" Lopez of Albuquerque, passed away on March 6, 2008. He was born on July 31, 1935, in Chacon, NM to Juan and Maria Lopez. He is survived by his wife, Otilia "Tillie" Lopez; children Archie, Richard and Carrie; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers John and Archie; and sister Rosalie. Woody was a South Valley icon, owning AARCO Lawnmower Service for 20 years; and through his community involvement, he helped create and bring several projects to fruition. His involvement with Rio Grande High School, the South Valley Exchange Club, and his efforts to help establish the South Valley Library are just a few of his accomplishments. Later he moved to McIntosh, NM where he continued his selfless community involvement. He returned to Albuquerque where he spent the last year and a half of his life. He "lived well, laughed often and loved much." He never met a stranger. He was a great mentor to many children throughout the years and never stopped encouraging them to be all that they could be. The South Valley and Estancia Valley will have a little less sparkle on the morning dew.
