Obituary for JOHNSON

Gustine Thompson Johnson, a resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1972, died February 29, 2008. She is survived by her son, Dr. Douglas Johnson and his wife, Sheila of Naples, FL; granddaughter, Victoria Johnson of San Antonio, Texas; granddaughter, Cristen Johnson Andreyka and her husband, David of Ocala, FL. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, George G. Johnson. The daughter of William and Pearl Thompson of Texarkana, Texas and sister of Zena Helmes and Jimmie Neal of Texarkana, Mrs. Johnson graduated from the Texarkana, Texas High School in 1932. She soon moved to Washington, D.C. to begin a career in the Federal Government during those years of dire economic depression. She completed a successful and fulfilling career with the Federal Government in 1972, spending the last 25 years of her service in the Civil Aeronautics Administration, later the Federal Aviation Administration as Secretary to the General Counsel; to the Assistant Administrator; and to the Administrator of the Agency. Mrs. Johnson was an accomplished pianist, an avid and competent artist in oils and watercolors, and a lover of animals. During her lifetime she never hesitated to stop to assist an animal in distress and contributed generously to many organizations dedicated to caring for abandoned / injured animals. A Memorial Service is pending. Mrs. Johnson's cremains will be interred in the Thompson family cemetery plot in Texarkana, Texas.
