Obituary for MARES

Paul Manuel Mares was born February 18, 1934 in Agua Negra, New Mexico. A resident in San Acacia, New Mexico, Paul passed away Saturday, February 23, 2008 in Albuquerque. Paul retired from the Albuquerque Fire Department in 1987. Paul enjoyed his career with the Albuquerque Fire Department and was very proud to have served for 25 years. He also honorably served in the US Navy. Paul was a very religious man. He was a born-again Christian who had tremendous faith and a great love for Jesus Christ. Paul was a member of Assembly of God Church in San Acacia, NM., where he traveled and told others about how to turn their lives over to Jesus, so they can have salvation and go to heaven. He is survived by his five children; Anthony Mares, Johnny Mares, Leroy Mares, Fatima Mares, and David Mares, all of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren; and also his grandson, Leroy Butler and wife, Alicia, who loved him like a father; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mela Suazo, of Albuquerque; ex-wife, Theresa Mares, all of Albuquerque; other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th ST. NW. on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. Burial will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. with US Navy Honors.
