Obituary for ENARSON

Audrey Pitt Enarson, former First Lady of Ohio State University, died January 26, at the age of 87. The cause of death was complications from Alzheimer's. She was a resident of San Juan Villa, in Port Townsend, WA. She had moved there from Boulder, CO in 2005. Mrs. Enarson was born August 22, l920, in Crownpoint, NM. She attended the University of New Mexico, and graduated in l942. In the same year, she married Harold L. Enarson. Mrs. Enarson's life was largely involved with her husband's career, as she was her husband's partner at Cleveland State University from l966 to l972, and then became the First Lady of Ohio State University from l972 to l982. Prior to living in Ohio, she lived in Albuquerque, NM, where her husband was Academic Vice President, University of New Mexico, from l960 to l966. During her life, Mrs. Enarson was a volunteer for numerous organizations, among them, the National Girl Scout Council, the National Democratic Women's Club, and Habitat for Humanity. She also worked for the rights of the disabled, and was active in the public school system. In l982, Dr. and Mrs. Enarson retired from Ohio State University, and moved to Boulder, CO. Here she enjoyed gardening, and continued and doing volunteer work. Mrs. Enarson was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harold L. Enarson, who died July 28, 2006. She is survived by her daughters, Merlyn E. Prentice, of Arlington, Virginia, Elaine Enarson, of Brandon, Manitoba, Lisa Enarson, of Port Townsend, WA; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Audrey P. Enarson Endowed Fund, UNM Foundation, MSC 07 4260 , l University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87l3l. Services will be private, and will be held in Villisca, IA. A Memorial Service will be held in Boulder, CO, at a later date.
