Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Monday January 28, 2008

Jessie The matriarch of five living generations, Jessie Chavez, 97 of Albuquerque, was called to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 26, 2008. Our beloved mother and grandmother was best known for her love, faith and devotion to God and her unwavering service to her family and her community. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Madres Cristianas and the Sacred Heart League. In 1995 she was crowned the first senior Fiesta Queen of San Felipe de Neri and was declared Duquesa de Alburquerque, by Mayor Martin Chavez. Jessie, will always be remembered in her kitchen making food for the poor, tortillas for the San Felipe Fiestas, and countless cookies that her grandchildren always looked for after greeting her. Jessie was the happiest when surrounded by her large family. A special tradition that we will all miss is the gathering of family and friends in her home for Las Posadas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank T. Chavez; and her beloved siblings, Placido, Anita, Salomon, Carlota, Albert, Ricardo, and Nora; as well as her mother and father, Soledad and Jose Angel Garcia. Jessie will be greatly missed by her six surviving children, Ruben, Lawrence, Willie, Juanita, Cathy, and Ramon. Jessie leaves a legacy of 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 16 great great grandchildren. God Bless You Grandma!
