Obituary for WALTON

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday January 27, 2008

Bruce St. Clair Walton, son of Agnes and Edwin Walton, was born in Barejo, California on June 24, 1930. His childhood was spent on a farm near Leavenworth, Washington where he grew up with his cousins, the Schmokers. He was in the US Army and was stationed in Iran 1949-1952. After serving his country, he moved to Northern Virginia and was a newspaper distributor for The Washington Post. He parlayed his skills into a career as an accountant with a specialty in corporate tax law. Bruce eventually moved his practice to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Among his clients were Albuquerque Fence Company and Bookbinders of New Mexico which he served for nearly two decades. Bruce's commitment and work ethic was strong throughout his life. In fact, he insisted upon working a full day before admitting himself to the hospital, leading up to his death on January 20, 2008 from pneumonia and respiratory failure. Bruce greatly valued education and continually took and taught courses. He earned a BA and MBA from his studies at George Mason University and Western New Mexico University. Bruce was a pilot, enjoyed photography, and was known to spoil his cats daily with tuna. He was an avid reader of history and biographies. Likewise, he was very fond of traveling to historical and geographical landmarks throughout the western United States. Each year he assisted low income, disabled and elderly people with their tax returns. In 1988 he was recognized by the Governor of New Mexico as an 'Exceptional Volunteer.' In 1975, he married Mary Kageorge. They had an instant family, as she already had 5 children. The two were married for 23 years until her death ten years ago. Through his marriage and an adoption, his family grew to include Kenton Walton; William, Rebecca, Jason and Edward Kageorge; Stephen, Marjory, Joshua, James, and Jonathon Stanek; Bruce, Anne, and Nicole Kageorge; Pat (deceased) and Beth Barlow; and John, Kiran, Jasmine, Rajan, and Jaia Kageorge. Bruce is also survived by two cousins in Washington State, Edwin Berg (Seattle) and Barbara Komm (Omak). A Service will be held on at 9:00 a.m. on February 30, 2008 at St Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School NE, Albuquerque.
