Richard L. Starkey was born September 11, 1928 in Albuquerque, NM. He passed away January 11, 2008 in Lubbock, TX. Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen; sons, Lell Starkey and wife, Debbie of Lubbock, TX, David Starkey and wife, Peggy, of Lake Elsinore, CA; daughter, Nancy Lee and husband, Andrew of Anchorage, AK; three grand-daughters, Crisanne Thompson and husband Tim, Michelle Lawson and husband, Johnny and Tamara Starkey; grandson, Daniel Starkey and wife, Jennifer; great-grandsons, Addison and Ian and two great-granddaughters, Katherine and Elizabeth. He is also survived by many wonderful friends who had enriched not only his life but the lives of the entire Starkey family. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, James C. and Dottie Starkey and son, Gary Starkey. Richard served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1946 through 1948. He and Helen were married on August 31, 1951. Richard retired from Sandia Labs after 36 years of service. After retiring, he and Helen traveled every state in the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii, and then settled down in the beautiful Jemez Mountains where they lived and played for 21 years. Celebration Services will he held at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Friday, January 18, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be: James Huff, Richard Huff, Fred Huff, Kenneth Starkey, Robert Starkey and Andrew Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be: Tom Donnally, George Wenk, Rick Stevens and Joe Marshall.
