Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday January 03, 2008

CHARLES E. On December 31, 2007, Charles E. McComb, age 76, peacefully left this earth surrounded by his family and entered into the glorious kingdom of God to begin his eternal life given to him through Christ Jesus. Chuck was born in Wilsonville, Nebraska, on November 2, 1931, to Eldridge and Edna McComb. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 52-years, Donna-Kay; their children, Scott McComb and wife, Debbie; Stacey-Kay Stomp and husband, John; grandchildren, Kimberly, Greg and wife Beth, Brandon, Brittany, John, and Abigail; great-grandchildren, Mariah, Cody, and Kaelin. While growing up in Denver, Colorado, Chuck played all sorts of sports, but especially loved basketball. He even tried out for the Denver Bears baseball team. He delivered newspapers in Denver and helped work at the church where he lived with his parents. He also played the piano, collected numerous sports memorabilia and just plain loved playing and talking about sports. While sitting in church, he looked into the choir and laid eyes upon the love of his life, Donna-Kay Floth. On October 29, 1955, he married Donna-Kay in Casper, Wyoming. He worked for General Electric Supply Co. for 37-years stationed in Denver and Grand Junction, Colorado, Casper, Wyoming, Farmington and Albuquerque, New Mexico. He lived in Albuquerque the last 41-years. He had a passion for bowling and continued to bowl competitively in leagues until November of this year. He was honored as one of the founding members of the New Mexico Bowling Hall of Fame for his achievements. Chuck was well liked whether he was working, playing or just talking with his many friends. He loved watching and talking about his favorite football teams, the Denver Broncos and Nebraska Cornhuskers as he lived in Nebraska as a boy. He loved college basketball and held Lobo tickets for many years with a highlight of attending the NCAA final four in the Pit. He was very giving, loving, and would sacrifice anything for anyone. He was a great and loving husband and father and was always there for his family and friends. He was an exceptional grandfather who attended and participated in every school event, play, concert, luncheon, fundraiser, basketball and baseball games and bowling leagues and tournaments. His family was his pride and joy in life and he gave his heart and soul to them. Chuck was an example of how people should live their lives, loving, caring, supporting, protecting, giving and helping. Chuck is a believer in Jesus Christ and is now reunited in heaven with his parents, in-laws, best childhood friend, Walter Chin and his grandson, Scott Shawn. Chuck will be loved and missed most by his family and longtime friends, Lea and Obie Boren and Hal and Barbie Corazzi. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in his name to Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 8600 Academy NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
