Gross Susan Kist, age 84, passed away on December 22, 2007. She was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on May 3, 1923. She was a resident of Los Alamos since 1978. Prior to that she lived in Lakewood, CO, Albuquerque, NM, and Arlington, VA. She was an honor graduate of Fulton High School, Fulton, MO, and was active in the Pep Squad, Drum and Bugle Corps, and the school newspaper. She attended Missouri Baptist School of Nursing in St. Louis, MO. She is survived by her husband, Fred A. Gross, Jr. of 64 years; daughters: Joyce D. Freiwald of Albuquerque, NM, Cheryl A. Boone and husband, Douglas of Albuquerque, NM, Narra S. Tsiagkouris and husband, James of Los Alamos, NM; son, Fred A. Gross, III and wife, Denise of Santa Fe, NM; sister, Mary Phelan and husband, Robert of Boulder, CO; brother, Frank Doran of Los Angeles, CA. There are ten grandchildren: Wes Freiwald and wife, June of Hawaii, Todd Freiwald and wife, Wendy of Winchester, VA and their children: Jake, Ryan, Scott, and Megan, Chris Freiwald and wife, Lani and their daughter, Brisan of Albuquerque, NM, Marjorie D. Gross, and Frederick A. Gross IV, of Santa Fe, NM, Anastasia, Zoe, and Alexandria Tsiagkouris of Los Alamos, NM. She married Fred A. Gross, Jr. July 2, 1943 and resided in many cities in the United States and in Okinawa following her husband during his career in the regular United States Air Force. She was very active in the Girl Scouts serving as Brownie, Cadet, Junior, and Senior Troop Leader and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Chaparral Girl Scout Council. She was active in Republican politics during the eight years her husband served in the New Mexico Senate and was a member of the Board of Directors of Federated Republican Women of Bernalillo County, a member of the Public School Advisory Board of Bernalillo County, and on the Bernalillo Board of Directors for Retarded Citizens. She was a member of the Presbyterian Hospital Auxiliary in Albuquerque. In Los Alamos she served on the Board and as President of the Los Alamos Medical Center Auxiliary, and on as State President of New Mexico Hospital Auxiliary Association. She was active in the White Rock Methodist Church and served as the Chairman of the Board of the Horizon's Center Day Care Program and as a member of several other committees. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a very skilled seamstress, quilter and knitter and enjoyed fishing, camping, and travel. She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Funeral Services will be conducted at White Rock United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2007. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the White Rock United Methodist Church 580 Meadow Lane, or the Los Alamos Medical Center Auxiliary 3917 West Rd.
