Nancy Bell Smock, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1965, died Monday, November 26, 2007. She is survived by her children, Michael S. Smock of Corrales, NM, Marcia S. Gardner and husband, Gilbert of Chandler, AZ, Sally S. Gundling of Albuquerque, and Patricia Danford and husband, Richard, of Los Alamos, NM; five grandchildren, Sean and Matthew Gardner, Athena and Robert Jesse Visel, and Kyle Gundling; sisters, Chloris Fohl of Richmond, VA, and Mary Hart and husband, Bill, of Austin, TX; and other relatives and friends. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Kenneth Jesse Smock in 1981; and one brother, John Bell. She was born on November 7, 1922 in Des Moines, IA to Floyd and Doris Bell and moved to Indianapolis, IN as a child where she graduated from Shortridge High School. Nancy attended McMurray Woman's College in Illinois, completing her education at Butler University in Indianapolis, IN with a degree in Home Economics. Shortly thereafter, she and Kenneth eloped to Jacksonville, FL. They lived in several places before Kenneth retired from the Marines, moved the family to Albuquerque, where they began a restaurant career with two Denny's on Central and later owned and operated the Beef and Bourbon. She bowled well into her seventies, was an international traveler, enjoyed the opera and symphony and played bridge right up until her death. Nancy attended the First Presbyterian Church for many years. She was a devoted daughter, a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Cremation and a private family service have taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nancy's name to the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, 4407 Menaul Blvd. SE, 87110-2951.
