Beth Wohlers Tietjen passed away Saturday morning, November 24, 2007 after a short battle with cancer. She was at home surrounded by her family and friends. Beth was born June 23, 1935 in Deer Lodge, MT. At the age of 15 she came for a visit to see her grandmother, Agnes Morley Cleaveland, at her Datil Ranch. She never returned to Montana. She graduated from Magdalena High School in 1952. She attended NMSU. She attended UNM Valencia Campus and graduated with an associate's degree. She married Jim Ledbetter on July 29, 1955 in Magdalena, NM. She later married Joe Tietjen on October 1, 1969 in Los Lunas, NM. Beth was well known for her love of horses, animals and people in need. She worked with the Red Cross for several years. She was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She would never hesitate to go and help with a sick horse or someone that was down on their luck. She loved to "nurse" a horse back to health and many people bought their first horse from her. She was preceded in death by her father, Claus Wohlers; her mother, Mary Wohlers; and her brother, Norman Wohlers. She is survived by her husband, Joe Tietjen; her sister, Mary Ann Montague of Dixon, CA; six children, Julie Ledbetter of Peralta, NM, Janet Anderson (Mark) of Rio Rancho, NM, Lee Tietjen of Peralta, NM, Joseph Tietjen (Tina) of Los Lunas, NM, Tara Porter (Sean) of Mesa, AZ, and Lila Smiel (Scott) of Lunas, NM. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Sebastian and Britnee Tietjen, Clayton and Collin Anderson, and Tabitha and David Smiel, along with her many close friends, several horses, a couple of donkeys and two chickens. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Sierra Vista Hospice and many wonderful friends who helped this past month. Services will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, located at 160 James Street, Los Lunas, NM. The viewing will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with the Funeral Service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Datil, NM Cemetery. As mom would say, "It's a ya'll come situation."
