Obituary for PADILLA

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday October 11, 2007

Dorothy "Jean" Padilla passed away on Tuesday after a long illness. Sunriser Jean, as she was known to her family, loved everything about the morning. She awakened at 5:00 almost every day of her life to whistle her favorite songs while preparing breakfast. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 30, 1923, Jean spent her childhood in Michigan, Canada, and Oklahoma. She graduated from Wayne State Business College in 1944 and worked for the Veterans' Administration for 5 years. In 1947, she married Ruperto Padilla of Ribera, NM. From 1970 until she retired in 1985, Jean worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company. For many years, Jean was a devoted member of San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas, where she attended weekly mass and Bible study classes. She delighted in her senior exercise group and watching her grandchildren participate in numerous school musical and sporting events. Jean's favorite pastimes were sewing, surfing the Internet, and all forms of word games. All of Jean's grandchildren enjoyed going to orthodontist appointments, knowing that Grandma would take them to Lucky Boy's Restaurant afterward. Love flowed easily from Jean and was returned by her entire family. She is survived by her children, Melinda Padilla Reynolds, Dr. Barbara Dupre, Debora Selke, and John Padilla; their spouses, Warren Reynolds, Michael Selke, and Aurelia Padilla; grandchildren, Dr. Caryn Reynolds and husband, Zachary Diccico, Eric Reynolds, Dr. Ross Eppler, Allison Selke, Clinton Selke, Brittany Hasse and husband, Christian, Johnathan Padilla and Adriana Padilla; and three great-grandchildren, Rachel Hasse, Ainslie Hasse, and Jazon Selke. A Rosary will be held Friday, October 12, 2007, 5:30 p.m., at San Clemente Church, Los Lunas. Mass will be held Saturday, October 13, 2007, 9:00 a.m., at San Clemente Church, 244 Luna Rd. NE, Los Lunas. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul c/o San Clemente Parish, 244 Luna Rd.
