Obituary for SHEPHERD

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday August 19, 2007

Priscilla Sorrell Shepherd, beloved wife of Alan Shepherd, passed away on August 10, 2007 in Dallas, Texas. She was 46. Priscilla received a liver and kidney transplant on June 29, 2007, and died due to complications that arose after her surgery. Priscilla was born in Denver, Colorado in 1961 to Noel and Madelyn Sorrell. The family moved back to Albuquerque in 1966 and, in 1979, Priscilla graduated from Albuquerque High School. That same year, Priscilla received her first kidney transplant after having been diagnosed with renal disease about a year earlier. Her father, Noel, was the donor. Doctors at the time predicted that her kidney would last about 6 years. Priscilla was blessed to live another 27 years before her body finally rejected her kidney. In 1989, Priscilla met her husband Alan Shepherd whom she married on February 14, 1990. Alan and Priscilla remained a loving and devoted couple until her death. Priscilla enjoyed a great variety of interests and occupations during her lifetime, including working as a cosmetologist and a travel agent. Priscilla earned an associates degree in graphic art in the 90's and later worked as a graphic artist for a regional magazine. This and other training allowed Priscilla to hone her talents as an artist of watercolors. Her creativity spread to the kitchen where many of her culinary curiosities became the stuff of family legend. Priscilla and Alan also enjoyed camping, boating, traveling and, more recently, biking. They considered each other soul mates. Priscilla's medical problems precluded her from having children of her own. Instead of being bitter, however, Priscilla directed her love to her many nieces and nephews. Priscilla was also passionate about the many pets she had in her life. Priscilla is survived by her husband, Alan Shepherd; mother, Madelyn Sorrell; father, Noel C. Sorrell; brother, John D. Sorrell; sister, Angela K. Sweeney; brother, Lincoln J. Sorrell; brother-in-law, Les Shepherd; sister-in-law, Debra Phillips; sister-in-law, Natalie Weatherby Nance; parents-in-law, Nat and Betty Weatherby; six nephews; six nieces; three grandnieces; one grandnephew; and many other beloved friends and relatives. Memorial Services for Priscilla Sorrell Shepherd will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria Rd. NE, Albuquerque, N. M. 87112-1301. Contributions can be made in Priscilla's name to: The National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016
