Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday July 29, 2007

Helen Marie Astore Pearson, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for 33 years, passed into eternal life, Wednesday, July 25, 2007. She is survived by her brothers, Joseph Astore, and wife, Yolanda; Fred Astore, and wife, Marilyn; and Rudy Astore and wife, Lucy; sister, Marion Stephens; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Pearson was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Harry (Whitey) Pearson. Helen and Whitey enjoyed traveling widely and often in their motor home for many years, often surprising family and friends for special events and visits. Helen was very proud of her Italian heritage and possessed many talents. She loved cooking and sharing her recipes and favorite dishes. She also learned the art of pottery, creating many lovely pieces for her home. Helen was highly skilled at crocheting, as well. She fashioned beautiful afghans for many family members. Helen followed Whitey whenever possible on his tours of duty abroad, including his assignments at Naples, Italy. While at Naples, Helen arranged to bring her father back to Italy from America to visit his mother for the first time in 50 years at their native village of Orria. This proved to be a major highlight and one of the proudest moments in Helen's life. Burial services are private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Helen's memory to the WellCare Foundation, 55 East Lexington Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85012.
