Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Monday July 16, 2007

Solomon Barth, 93, devoted father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of July 12, 2007. He was surrounded by the comfort of his loved ones and was joyfully reunited with his beloved wife, Ruth, lovingly known as "Tootsie". He was born January 28, 1914, in Monticello, NM, to Louis and Emilia Chavez Barth. He was the fourth of eleven children. Sol graduated from Monticello High School in 1932. In 1940 he met the love of his life, Ruth Warren, while working for the Five Civilized Tribes Agency in Muskogee, OK. Shortly thereafter, he brought his sweetheart to Albuquerque and married her on August 13, 1942. From this marriage, five children were born, two girls and three boys. Sol entered the U.S. Army and honorably served his country during WWII and the Korean War, serving overseas in North Africa, Italy, Japan, Eniwetok, and Germany. During his military career, he was involved in the top secret development and testing of the atomic and hydrogen bombs at Sandia Base, Los Alamos and the Bikini Atoll. Sol retired in Albuquerque in 1965 after a 20 year military career. For the next eleven years, he was the owner and operator of Sol's Pizza on Wyoming Blvd., NE, providing the very first heated pizza delivery service in Albuquerque. Upon selling his restaurant in 1976, he spent the remainder of his life working diligently at the commissary at Kirtland AFB. Sol was a hard-working, wonderful, devoted man with a heart of gold and will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna, and his beloved wife of 63 years, "Tootsie". He is survived by his four children: Linda, Don and wife, Dotti, Jim and wife, Kat, and Chuck. He is also survived by grandchildren, Cheri Rodriguez, Matt Barth and his fiancee, Krystle Rodriguez; and two great-grandsons, Tyler and Brett Rodriguez, all of Albuquerque. The family requests in lieu of flowers that cash donations be sent to Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary, 3749-A Highway 14, Santa Fe, NM 87508.
