Obituary for CHAMBELLAN

Marcel C. Chambellan, 80, with his family by his side, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 4, 2007. Marcel was born June 1, 1927 the son of Marcel and Hester Howe Chambellan in Englewood, NJ. He graduated from Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, NJ in 1944, and immediately joined the United States Army. He spent his first year of service studying engineering at New York City College. This was followed by service in the European Theater of Operations. He continued his military service in the New Jersey Army National Guard, the Colorado Army National Guard, and the New Mexico Army National Guard. After his discharge in 1947, he attended Montclair State University, earning a degree in education. His first teaching experience was in Bayfield, CO, which was close to his sister Ethel, who lived in Denver. He was an educator in Ignacio, CO, Indian Wells, AZ, Zuni, NM, and finally Gallup, NM. He retired from the Gallup-McKinley County School district in 1987, as the principal of Tse Bonito Elementary School. During this time, he earned a master's degree in education from UNM. He proudly sported a Lobo baseball cap. His passions were golf and basketball. Through out his educational career, he coached countless kids in basketball, baseball, and track. He was the perfect example of America's Greatest Generation, growing up during the depression, serving in the Army during World War II, graduating from college on the G.I. Bill, a long career as an educator, and raising a family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Quentin, Benjamin, and Herbert; and sisters, Ethel (Hutchins) and Alice. Marcel is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise Chambellan; sons, Clarke and wife, Collette of Erie, CO, Curtis and wife, Marian of Albuquerque, Kendall and wife, Joanie of Whiteface, TX, Donald and wife, Tracy of Albuquerque, David and wife, Genia of Albuquerque; and 15 grandchildren. The Service for Marcel will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho.
