Obituary for BYRD

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday July 01, 2007

HENRY GEORGE ROBERT III PFC Henry George Robert Byrd III, age 20, a resident of Veguita, NM, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2007. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. While proudly serving his country with the Charlie Company, 1st of the 30th Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division in Iraq, our beloved Henry suffered from severe heat stroke and shock, causing multiple complications and multiple organ failure. Henry passed and is now serving Our Lord with open arms. Prior to joining the military, he honorably participated in the ROTC program at Belen High School, where he went on to graduate in 2004. Henry was brave and determined to make a difference in this world. He was proud to follow his fathers' footsteps in serving his country and becoming a soldier in the U.S. Army. Even before joining the military, our Henry demonstrated his love and desire for helping others in need. In July of 2005, there was an accident at a local Allsups and Henry did not hesitate to race to his fire chiefs house for immediate assistance which improved the outcome for four individuals. Our Henry had many interests which included outdoor sports, paintball wars, car shows, but most of all he was happy to help turn someone else's frown into a smile. He also won the hearts of many children, considering them as his own. He was remembered well by his nephew, Anthony Trujillo and the rest of the YAFL football team, in which he would paint his face in the spirit of the game and cheer for the team on the sidelines of the football field. Our beloved Henry attempted to bring together his family, whom he loved, and in his death he has finally managed to reach his goal. His presence has touched the hearts of many and his early departure has left many confused and sad with grief, but his presence will remain in all of our hearts as he now lives in heaven. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, George Barela and paternal grandfather, Robert Byrd. Henry is survived by his mother, Yolanda Lopez; father, Henry Byrd; two sisters, Erica Byrd and Della Canamar; stepmother, Margaret Baca and stepfather, Peter Lopez. He will also be missed by many others. Services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Monday, July 2, 2007 beginning with a visitation at 6:30 p.m. and a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be his fellow Military Comrades.
