Gayle Mitchell Sykes, 71, of Albuquerque, NM, formerly of Hot Springs, AR, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 in Albuquerque. Gayle was born on December 18, 1935 to Ben J. and Norma (Garrettson) Mitchell. She graduated Fort Smith High School in 1953 and attended the University of Oklahoma. She married Bob Sykes of Arkoma, OK. Gayle's life revolved around her family and she strived to be the best mother and grandmother she could be. Gayle was always there to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. Gayle was a successful real estate developer and was partnered in many businesses in Hot Springs, AR, Phoenix, AZ, and Albuquerque, NM. Gayle believed in Jesus Christ and was active in her church until her recent illness. Those who knew Gayle personally or in the business community will feel the loss of her spirit and her love of life. Gayle was much loved and will truly be missed. Gayle is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Terry and Donna Sykes of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; ex-husband, lifelong friend and business partner, Bob Sykes; two sisters, Lavern Robbins of Fort Smith, AR and Margaret Rees of Hattiesburg, MS; six nieces and nephews; numerous other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends. Funeral Services for Gayle were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 17, 2007 at Woodlawn Memorial Park Chapel in Fort Smith, AR with the Reverend Jimmy D. Cook officiating. Interment followed the Services at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home of Pocola, OK. Pallbearers were Roy Walker, Tom Pipkins, Aaron Pipkins, Johnny Pipkins, John Damato, and James Ogden.
