Obituary for SANDOVAL

Arabelle Sandoval born May 18, 1933 passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. after battling lung cancer for over a year. She died peacefully with her youngest son, Paul Smith, by her side. Arabelle is survived by her children and their families: daughter, Lucy (Michael) Garcia and their children, Kristin, Marcos, and Nicolas; daughter, Julia (Lawrence) Goen and their children, Michael and Christopher; son, Richard ( Margaret ) Smith and their children, Stephanie and Matthew; son, Paul ( Carlyn) Smith and their child, Cana; her mother, Lucinda Sandoval; sisters, Pauline Hickerson, Pita Burke; and brothers, Danny Sandoval, Ed Sandoval, and Bill Sandoval. Belle was born and lived in Nambe, NM most of her childhood and graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1952. She married John C. Smith and lived in Southern Oregon for many years. She then returned to Albuquerque where she raised her four children as a single mom. Belle graduated from the University of Albuquerque and worked several years for the Dept. of Energy. She finally retired from the IRS as a Revenue Agent. She volunteered at UNMH, and as a docent at the Hispanic Cultural Center. Her hobbies were gardening, flower arranging, quilting, and traveling. Belle had a very enthusiastic approach to life, which attracted many friends and special people in her life. She was beautiful inside and out and will be dearly missed. A Rosary will be recited 4:00 p.m. Friday June 8, 2007 at Aspen Funeral Chapel, 1935 Juan Tabo NE, and Funeral Mass at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1800 Martha NE, 9:00 a.m. Saturday June 9, 2007. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arabelles' name to the American Cancer Society.
