Obituary for SALMON

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday June 05, 2007

Rev. Thomas Howard Salmon was born on July 8, 1920 and went home to be with his Lord on June 2, 2007. Tom was born in Vinita, OK and spent some of his early childhood with his grandmother in Harrison, AR and fondly talked of the farm and the grandmother who sat in the rocking chair with her Bible in her lap. His family moved to Albuquerque because his mother had tuberculosis and it was thought that the warmer, drier climate would benefit her. Tom graduated from Albuquerque High School and attended the University of New Mexico. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy as an airplane mechanic. Because of his love for automobiles he became an auto mechanic and spent many years "busting nuts" as he called it. Later in his working career, he worked for the General Services Administration in managing some of their motor pools. In 1954 he was called into the ministry and has faithfully served his Lord ever since. He served as Pastor of Faith Chapel until the time of his death. Tom was loved by everyone who knew him and he will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas M. Salmon and Nellie M. Salmon; his beloved wife of 65 plus years, Helen P. Salmon; and his youngest daughter, Patricia L. Salmon. He is survived by his daughters, Bertha Matheny and husband, Ed and Mary Sue Culbertson and husband, Bill; and his son, Thomas M. Salmon and wife, Claudette; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 5, 2007, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Service will be held at Faith Chapel, 1726 Girard, NE, Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Bill Culbertson, Rev. Tim Maxwell and Rev. Danny Hedges officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Chapel. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE 505-275-3500 www.frenchmortuary.com
