Obituary for SANDERS

Roy Eugene Sanders Sr., 79, died at the Kansas City Hospice House, in Kansas City, MO. Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the Central United Methodist Church, 201 University NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106. The family suggests contributions be given to Conchas Dam, NM Emergency Services, or, Truman Medical Center Palliative Care. Roy was born December 19, 1927, in Skiatook, OK, to William Thomas and Bessie Edith (Barnes) Sanders. He served in the U.S. Air force and Navy during World War II, and the Korean Conflict. Roy married Betty D. Hennigan on April 7, 1951, in Merryville, LA. He worked for the Public Service Company of New Mexico as a hydraulic and welding fabricator, retiring November 1, 1987. Roy was a talented artisan craftsman working with turquoise, and silver, as well as wood. He was an avid fisherman, and actively served on the Board of Directors for Conchas Dam; and was a member of the Conchas Dam Baptist Church. He moved to Platte City, MO on December 10, 2006 to be cared for during his illness. Roy was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Betty D. Sanders, December 19, 2004; his son, Terry Lynn Sanders; two brothers, Orville, and Syl Sanders; and his sister, Jo Bliss. He is survived by: his son, Roy Sanders Jr., and wife, Denise, of Platte City; one daughter, Brenda Sanders, of Albuquerque NM; three grandchildren, Andrea Gonzales, Matthew Sanders, and Elizabeth "Littlebit" Sanders; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew Hall, Alyssa Gonzales, Jessica Gonzales, and Dyllan Pridgen.
