Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday April 15, 2007

Shig F. Yoshimoto, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 after an extended illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Yo; son, Craig and wife, Nancy, of Albuquerque; daughter, Midge Arthur and husband, Warren, of Corrales; two grandchildren, Travis Arthur of Milwakee, WI and Kayce Arthur-Hettinger and husband, Peter of Mary Esther, FL. Being an American of Japanese ancestry during WWII, Shig was forced into an interment camp in Gila, AZ in 1942, where he met Yo. Upon release in 1944, Shig and Yo moved to Chicago where he learned his trade as an auto mechanic. Shig was a talented and skilled mechanic working for the Lincoln-Mercury dealers for many years, then operated his own shop, "Shig's Automotive" from 1977-1987. He was an avid golfer who was a member of the Paradise Hills Country Club for many years and in later years played other courses around the city. The family deeply appreciates the concern and tender care given by the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Vista Care Hospice. A very special thanks is given to Teresa for the kindness and care she gave to Shig during his last few months. A Private Memorial Service has already been held and cremation has taken place. Contributions in the memory of Shig Yoshimoto may be made to the Vista Care Foundation, 5639 Jefferson NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109.
