Obituary for ORTEGA

Ishmael Ortega, age 87 passed away on March 28, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in Oro Grande, NM to Maria Noriega on October 9, 1919. He was raised by Maria and his grandparents Saturnino and Alvina Ortega. He was a long time resident of New Mexico. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Melita L. Ortega; children, LeRoy and Karen Ortega of Albuquerque, Greg Ortega of Albuquerque, and Pat and Ron Huskey of Medford, OR; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 7 siblings. Ish was preceded in death by his son, Ronald K. Ortega, one sister, and two brothers. He received his Bachelor and Master degrees from Highlands University and a Ph.D from Princeton University. Ish was honored and respected in the field of chemistry. He was employed by the Atomic Energy Commission, he retired from Sandia National Laboratories and AT&T Technologies. Ish was a very talented man with many interesting hobbies. He loved music and was an avid coronet player. Ish served his country during WWII in the Army/Air Force where he earned 2 Bronze Stars and 1 Silver Star. He was a member of the American Legion Post #49, and the VFW Post # 7686. His sense of humor and caring nature will be missed by his family and friends. Memorial Services will be held Monday, April 2, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel.
