Obituary for STUDE

Alan John Stude, 68, a Corrales resident since 1992, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 19, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Avoca, IA, the son of John Franklin and Geraldine Alberta Sornsen Stude on August 26, 1938. Football and country music were among Al's favorites in high school. After he left the cornfields of Iowa, he spent 21 years in the United States Navy. Al lived a total of five years in the Republic of China and hauled cargo for Uncle Sam. He later flew in the Navy's newest P3 Sub Hunter. He instructed Anti-Submarine Warfare Tactics and flew the skies of Vietnam and Cambodia. Al served on the Carrier Midway CVA-41 off North Viet Nam. He finished his Naval career at Moffett Field, attaining the rank of Chief and teaching Advanced Avionics Systems on the P3s. After his Navy retirement in 1977, Alan worked for quite a few years in the Semiconductor Industry. He traveled to Europe and the Orient as a Field Service Engineer. He lived on the West Coast, Upstate New York, and (most recently) in the Albuquerque-Rio Rancho-Corrales communities of New Mexico. Al retired from employment in 2000. After several years of gardening and involvement with the Master Gardeners Program and the Corrales Farmers Market, Al and Lola became avid RVers. Alan was preceded in death by a baby brother, David Stude; his parents, John and Geraldine Stude; and his son, Alan Neil Stude, from a previous marriage to Anne Harris (Stude). Al is survived by his wife, Lola; sister, Karen and husband, Bud; niece, Wendy, and nephew, Kevin; together with his niece's children and new grandchild. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, 4310 Sara Rd. SE, Rio Rancho, with Reverend Warren Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in the cremation gardens in Vista Verde Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345.
