Obituary for METCALF

James "Jim" H. Metcalf, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, succumbed to cancer surrounded by family and friends on March 18, 2007 after a long fight. He is survived by his loving wife, of 45 years, Jackie; and his children, Michael Metcalf, Jodi Lardner and husband, John, and Mark Metcalf and wife, Cheryl; his grandchildren, Brittnee, Rachel, Shelby, Esther, and Shawn will miss being doted on by the grandfather that they love. He also leaves behind a brother, Larry Metcalf and wife, Molly; sisters, Patti Legnon and husband, Kenneth and Mary McCall and husband, Ed; and numerous other family members. Jim retired from Sandia National Labs in 2005 after 37 years where he was a member of the Distinguished Technical Staff. He was chosen to be a member of the U.S. inspection team that went to Moscow and Kazakhstan. The team successfully closed 186 nuclear testing tunnels in Kazakhstan. He was a member of the Health Physics Society, DeMolay and the Los Altos Christian Church where he taught Sunday School for 37 years. A viewing will be held at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel on Friday, March 23, 2007 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Los Altos Christian Church, 11900 Haines NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the NM Cancer Center Foundation, 4901 Lang NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109 or Los Altos Christian Church, 11900 Haines Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112.
