Obituary for LOUCHIOS

Tony Louchios, died on March 2, 2007, at the age of 80 from injuries he received in an accident. Tony was born on March 1, 1927 in Cyprus to Milia Georghio and Loutsios Christofi. He immigrated to Chicago, Illinois as a young man to join his uncle in the restaurant business. He enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his adopted country in Korea. After the Korean War he returned to Cyprus and married Soulla Karaolis in 1953. With his bride, he returned to Chicago and began a lifelong career as a restaurateur in Chicago and then Albuquerque. He came to Albuquerque in 1972 and opened the Prime House Restaurant, one of the first businesses to locate in Coors Blvd. in what is now the Paseo corridor. He was an active volunteer at the VA Hospital spending hours helping other veterans and was the founder of Friends of Veterans nonprofit organization. In addition to Soulla, he is survived by his son Leo Louchios of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter Maria Louchios of Albuquerque; brother Andy Louchios, and sister Niki Ierides of Cyprus; grandchildren Christina Bissias, George Bissias, Niki Louchios, Ben Louchios; nephew Louchios Ierides M.D.; and numerous other relatives in the United States and Cyrus. Services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at French Mortuary Westside Chapel at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Brad Lenentine officiating. A reception will follow immediately after the service. Friends can visit the mortuary from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday March 9, 2007 and one hour before the service at which time the casket will be closed. Burial will follow at a later time at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
