Obituary for DOWNUM

Virginia Lee Downum, 87, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2007. A native of El Paso, TX, she married F.E. "Eddie" Downum in 1938, and the couple raised their family in West Texas and Arizona. They retired to Albuquerque in 1980. Between 1958 and 2005, Virginia volunteered 32,000 hours at R.E. Thomason Hospital in El Paso TX, Flagstaff Medical Center in Arizona and Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. Upon her retirement, the Flagstaff Medical Center gift shop was renamed in her honor. She was a member of the NM Masonic Widows Club and the Woodbine Chapter of Eastern Star. She received the Arizona Daily Sun Citizen of the Year Award in 1974. Virginia was preceded in death by Eddie, her loving husband of 58 years. She is survived by two sons, Fred Downum and wife Linda of Albuquerque and Bill Downum of Highlands, Ranch, CO; one daughter, Georgia Reilly and husband John of Cottonwood, AZ; nine grandchildren and eleven great- grandchildren. Services will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, 10000 Candelaria NE on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Friends may visit Friday, March 9, 2007 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel.
