Merian L. Zeller was born in Kroonstad, Orange Free State (now South Africa) on December 18, 1921. Her parents, Ralph and Lillian Riggs, were Pentecostal missionaries. After returning to the United States in 1926, the family resided primarily in Springfield, MO. Merian Zeller earned a Diploma in Bible from Central Bible College in 1942, a B.A. in education from Drury College in 1962, and an M.A. in education from the University of Alaska in 1977. She was married to Grant Wacker from 1942-1975. Her sons, Grant Albert Wacker Jr. and Daniel Lee Wacker, were born in 1945 and in 1951. Between 1955 and 1980 she taught elementary school in Springfield, MO, Fullerton, CA, and Anchorage, AK. She married David Zeller in Anchorage, AK, on September 23, 1978. They lived in Anchorage from 1978 to 1988; Scotts Valley, CA from 1988 to 2004; Sandia Park, NM, from 2004 to 2006, and Albuquerque, NM, from 2006 until her death on February 28, 2007. She is survived by her husband, David Zeller of Albuquerque; son, Grant and wife, Katherine Wacker of Chapel Hill, NC; son, Daniel and wife, Rebecca Wacker of Sandia Park, NM; granddaughters, Laura Stern of Leasburg, NC, Julia Wacker of Chapel Hill, NC, Lyric and Maggie Wacker of Sandia Park, NM, great-granddaughter, Gretchen Stern of Leasburg, NC; and sister and brother-in-law, Venda and Donnel McLean of Aromas, CA. Services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Mountainside United Methodist Church, 4 Penny Ln., Cedar Crest, NM. Interment will be in Santa Cruz, CA, at a later date.
