Evelyn Gertrude Lester, born November 25, 1916 to Dawson and Gertrude Liggett in S. Indiana, passed away February 3, 2007. Graduated high school in Spiceland, IN. Earned a teacher's certificate from Ball State, Muncie, IN. Taught school in Greensboro for 2 years. Married George Lester in 1939, moved to Albuquerque in 1947. Received a BA in education with Phi Kappa Phi in 1956 and taught at Whittier and Inez schools. Retired from APS in 1978. She was a member of Retired Teachers Assoc. of NM and Central United Methodist Church. Evelyn played violin and piano, loved to read and write poetry. She enjoyed weekly bridge games with friends and family get-togethers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Dawson Liggett; brother, Virgil Liggett; George Lester, ex-husband; son, Stanley Kurt Lester. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Shelby and Jerry James; sister, Doris Morrow; grandchildren, Liane (Jack) Terrill of Vermont, Gerald (Beatrice) James of Colorado, and Justin James of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Josh Terrill, Jordan, Nikolas and Paige James; nephews and nieces, Clark (Peggy) Morrow and Celia (Brian) Burnett of Albuquerque, Beverly Ulrey, Norman (Roseann) Liggett of Indiana, Lois Thornton of Florida, Donna (John) McKenny of Oregon. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 6, 2007, 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Service will be Wednesday, February 7, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul Blvd., NE. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
