Obituary for STEVENS

Richard F. Stevens died, at 79 years of age, after a long illness in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 11:13 a.m. He was Director of Public Occasions at Ohio University from 1971-1992. He was artistic director for the YM/WHA Community Theatre and an instructor in creative drama from 1958-63 in Pittsburgh, PA. From 1963-68 he was Entertainment Director for the U.S. Department of Army in Germany and Vietnam. In addition, he was Artistic Managing Director for the Richmond Civic Theatre in Indiana from 1970-71. At his death he was on Honorable withdrawal from Equity (Currently on Honorable Withdrawal) Richard Stevens had been acting for over fifty years. He earned a BFA from Chicago's Goodman Theater and an MFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. He had over 300 credits to his name in acting and directing, largely in stock and community theater. His favorite roles include "Dr. Seward" in Dracula, "Barney" in "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" and Pozzo" in "Waiting for Godot." He is survived by his wife, Connie Stevens; his sons, Richard F. Stevens Jr., Oakland, MD and Patrick Dillon Stevens, Charlotte, NC; his daughter, Katherine M. Turner, Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren: Bethany Ann Stevens, Victoria Nicole Stevens, Oakland, MD, Shannon Rhae Stevens, Charlotte, NC; Alison Mabel Turner and Joseph Clarence Turner, Albuquerque, NM.
